Obituary For Lawanda Sue Suiter
Lawanda Suiter passed away peacefully at her home in Brandon, FL on 8/25/2025. Originally from Kettering, Ohio, she was a graduate of Fairmont East High School, class of 1973 and attended Sinclair College in Dayton, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her Father, George Dewey Suiter; her Mother, Mary Katherine Suiter; and her two older sisters, Brenda Kay Carlton and Nancy Jeanelle Clark.
Lawanda began her career in diagnostic imaging with Johnson & Johnson, joining Technicare Corp. in the late 70’s and bringing with her a stellar reputation as a radiology technologist. She quickly became one of Technicare’s top CT clinical imaging specialists and excelled in teaching physicians and technologists during Technicare’s new CT equipment installations. She greatly enjoyed the travel aspect of her position, meeting medical professionals in many states while visiting new facilities. When Technicare Corporation sold the first 3 CT scanners to China, five Chinese physicians came to the United States for 6 months of clinical training. Lawanda traveled with them to university affiliated medical institutions and industry meetings, becoming one of their most trusted and favorite colleagues.
She went on to join St. Joseph’s Diagnostic Center (BayCare) in Tampa, Florida in 1987 where she retired from an impressive 30-year career. During her tenure, she made a difference in the lives of countless patients and coworkers alike. This is where she put down deep roots in the form of friendships that became an extension of her family.
Lawanda was a proud breast cancer survivor for over 20 years and found great fulfillment volunteering as support and encouragement for the newly diagnosed her whole life. She was a symbol of strength, she was hope… she was a warrior.
Lawanda rescued and cared for many a person and pet, giving her all. She was devoted to her family and cared for both her mother and her sister through the end of their lives. Ubu and Ruthie were her faithful canine companions affording Lawanda many years of happiness. Her all-time favorite vehicle, a white GMC Jimmy SUV, remained her trusted transportation for decades. Notably, she was also an avid Harley-Davidson motorcycle rider for many years.
She will be remembered for her sharp wit, boundless compassion and generosity, love of animals and nature, her passion for photography, and her deep and loving bond with her family and close circle of friends.
Lawanda is survived by her nephew Robert Suiter, her niece Hannah Swigert and grand-nephews, Jacob and Kyle Swigert, whom she adored and were the pride and joy of her life.
