Obituary For Mark Allen Mero

Mark Allen Mero was born on August 22, 1967 in Tampa, Florida. He was the youngest of
eight children and was preceded in death by his parents, James and Inez Mero, his sister Terry
Lee Mero, and his brother-in-law George Farris. He is survived by his loving wife of 33 years
Brenda Mero, their four children Vicki, Nicholas, Matthew, Elizabeth; along with six of his
siblings Mary, Carole (Bill), Donna (Bill), Pam, James (Pat), Neal (Cheryl), and many nieces and
nephews.
Graduating from Brandon High School in 1985, Mark went on to earn his Associate’s degree
from Florida College (class of 87’) and his Bachelor’s degree from the University of South
Florida (class of 89’). During his time in school, he made many lifelong friends with his fellow
“Falcons” at Florida College, several of whom he maintained close relationships with for the rest
of his life. Mark also maintained a love for Florida College through his work with the college’s
booster club, the Hutchinson Bell, where he served as the vice president of the local Tampa
chapter.
Mark was actively involved in both his children’s lives and the lives of many youth. He
coached both youth and recreational sports, being fondly remembered as “Coach Mero” to
many. He impacted the lives of many aspiring athletes, fostering a Christian environment both
on and off the field. Even when he wasn’t coaching, Mark’s love for youth athletics could be
found when he was working as a high school football referee, which he did for over 20 years. He
also held a love for the theatre, which he passed on to his children. He frequently supported
Florida College’s theatre productions. Additionally, he performed several cameo roles in his
children’s theatre productions, being noted as a favorite of the student actors.
Mark is lovingly remembered for his quick wit and charisma, being able to make everyone
laugh. He enjoyed spending time with his friends and family, especially his Christian family. Mark
was a servant for the Lord and worshiped with the saints at the Valrico church of Christ. He was
actively involved in worship, including teaching the high school and middle school Bible classes
and organizing the skits for the annual VBS program. While our hearts are broken and we miss
him dearly, we take comfort and are thankful for the knowledge that he is at home with the Lord.
Services will be held on Saturday, July 18th at the Valrico church of Christ. Visitation will
begin at 10am with the funeral service at 11am
