Obituary For Peter Nicholas Sofarelli
It is with deep love and sadness that we announce the passing of Peter “Pete” Nicholas Sofarelli, 74, of Riverview, Florida, on September 26, 2025.
Born on December 16, 1950, in Rockville Centre, New York, Pete was the oldest of five children to Peter Leonard Sofarelli and Kathleen June Nugent Sofarelli. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, uncle, cousin, and friend.
Pete dedicated his career to construction management, where he was known for his hard work, sharp wit, and the camaraderie he shared with "the guys." He took pride in building churches, shopping centers, and countless other projects. Still, his true motivation in life was always his family.
In 1970, Pete met the love of his life, Dianne Lucille Guinn. Within six months, the two were married, beginning a marriage and partnership that spanned more than 54 years. Together, they raised two children and built a life filled with love, laughter, and shared adventures. Pete and Dianne especially enjoyed traveling together, with cruises becoming one of their favorite ways to experience life together.
Later in life, Pete’s greatest joy came from being “Pop” to his five grandchildren. They were the center of his world, and he invested himself fully in their lives. Whether cheering from the sidelines at games, celebrating achievements, attending school events, or simply spending time together, Pop was always present. His grandchildren, Carson, Gavin, Griffin, Madison, and Jacob brought him endless pride, and the bonds he built with them will forever be treasured.
One of Pete’s most endearing qualities was his habit of giving everyone he loved a nickname. To him, nicknames were a sign of affection, and they became a trademark of his playful spirit. Family and friends alike will remember not only the names he chose but the way they reflected his unique bond with each person.
Pete is survived by his devoted wife, Dianne; his children, Chris Sofarelli (wife Cindy) of Brandon, FL, and Lisa Byrd (husband Michael) of Lakeland, FL; and his five grandchildren. His siblings also survive him: Doreen Ryan (husband, Bob) of Safety Harbor, FL; Kathy Howdeshell (husband, Bill) of Largo, FL; Donna Becker (husband, Rick) of Palm Harbor, FL; and Nick Sofarelli of Clearwater, FL.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Sunday, October 19, at 2:00 PM at Bay Town Villas, 1200 Philippe Parkway, Safety Harbor, FL 34695. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Tunnels to Towers or Metropolitan Ministries.
Pete—“Pop”—will be remembered most for his unwavering devotion to his family, his joyful spirit, the nicknames he so lovingly gave, and the love he poured into every relationship. His presence will be deeply missed, but his legacy of love will live on in the lives of all who knew him.
