Obituary For Reta Kay Granger
Reta Kay Granger (née Allen), age 77, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2025, in Valrico, Florida. Born on January 7, 1948, in Birmingham, Alabama, and was a longtime resident of Mobile, Alabama, Reta lived a life defined by devotion to her family, sweet smile, and a heart that always put others first.
Reta was the beloved wife of the late Billy Joe Granger. Their marriage spanned an extraordinary 57 years until his passing on November 19, 2024. Her unwavering love and loyalty created a bond that remained unshakable through every season of life.
She was a devoted mother to three children: Steven Granger (Stephanie), Eric Granger (Daryl), and Cathy Albritton (Ed) who was her devoted caretaker the last 20 months. Her nurturing spirit extended to her eight grandchildren and one great-granddaughter, each of whom brought immense joy to her life. Reta is also survived by her sister Bonita "Bunny" Norris who she greatly loved, additional family, and many friends.
Those who knew Reta will remember her as a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose selflessness knew no bounds. She had a quiet strength and an enduring grace that touched everyone around her. When asked how she was doing no matter the circumstance her answer was always the same: "I am fine." It was more than just words; it was a reflection of her deep humility and concern for others above herself.
Reta found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She was a spectacular cook whose meals brought comfort and togetherness to countless family gatherings. She had a great joy for music especially Barbra Streisand but really enjoyed a variety of music throughout her life. She enjoyed watching sports especially Auburn football and Memphis Grizzlies basketball. These hobbies were not just pastimes but expressions of her pleasure in sharing her time with others.
The family has much appreciation to the staff at Savannah Court of Brandon and LifePath Hospice for their care of her.
A Celebration of Life service honoring Reta's life will be held on Monday, June 16, 2025, at 2 p.m. at the US National Cemetery, located at 6502 SW 102nd Ave, Bushnell, Florida 33513 where she will be laid to rest.
Reta leaves behind a legacy of love, compassion, and unwavering dedication to those she held dear. May her memory bring comfort to all who knew and loved her.
