Obituary For Simon Blakey

Simon Blakey, age 91, passed away peacefully on May 6, 2026, in Valrico, Florida. He was born on February 28, 1935, in Low Moor, Virginia.

Simon lived a long and meaningful life, from his early years in Virginia to his later years in Florida, he touched many lives. He lived in Columbus, Ohio, for several decades and retired from Kroger's bakery.

He found joy in life’s simple pleasures and happiest moments. Simon enjoyed fishing, taking cruises, dancing, and spending time at the casino. He also had a deep passion for the Ohio State Buckeyes. Whether traveling with loved ones, or sharing laughter and music, he embraced life with warmth and spirit.

Simon was preceded in death by his parents, John Henry Blakey and Fannie Lucille Spinner Blakey; his sisters, Mildred Hutchison, Shirley Topsail, Ruth Harmon, Mary O. Barber, and Peggy Bozeman; his brothers, Louis Blakey and William Blakey; his ex-wife, Marlynne Blakey; his son, Eric Blakey; his grandson Jason Sunderland; and his daughter-in-law, Barbara Blakey.

He is survived by his sisters, Daisy Bates and Virginia Clark; his brother, John Thomas Blakey; his sons, Simon Jr., LaMont, and Kevin; and his daughter, Simone(Jason). He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Mario, Yoshiko, September, Keveonta, Eric Jr., Simon III, Bianca, and Brooke(Danzell); as well as his cherished great-grandchildren Zoey, Prince, Zaria, Cali, and Germani; and a host of nieces and nephews, extended relatives, and dear friends that will forever cherish his memory.

Simon will be remembered for the love he shared with his family, the memories he created over generations, and the legacy he leaves behind in all who knew him. His life was a blessing, and his memory will continue to live on in the hearts of those who loved him.

Memorial services will be held on May 20, 2026(3PM), at Brandon Cremation & Funeral Services, 106 Rolling Hills Blvd, Valrico, FL 33594. Family and friends are invited to attend and celebrate Simon’s life and memory.
