Daniel Whichello

Daniel Whichello December 3rd 1941 - March 28th 2023 Daniel Whichello, 81, was born on December 3, 1941, in Monroe, Michigan. He went to his eternal Heavenly home on March 28, 2023, after a 13-year battle with Alzheimer's. A 43-year resident of Brandon, Daniel wore many hats. From building firetrucks to contract work, Dan was always there to lend a helping hand to neighbors, friends and family. He got much joy from spending time with his little side-kick Charlie, a shih tzu, watching Fox news and rooting for the Republican Party. Prior to transplanting to Brandon, Dan was part owner of his family run hotel and restaurant business, The Golden Lion Motor Inn, in Ochopee, near the Florida Everglades. As a young man, Daniel enlisted in the Army Reserves and attained the rank of Sargent during the Vietnam Era. Daniel also used this time to work with his own father at The Hitchin’ Post, another family-owned business in Michigan known for the infamous Draw-Tite trailer hitch, his father’s own invention. Daniel is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Margaret; his three children, Jeffrey, April (Barry Bennett), and Andrew (Tannia); Five grandchildren, Austin, Olivia, Aaron, Andyn and Andrew. He is also survived by his siblings: John (Nancy) Whichello, Nancy Whichello, Patricia Whichello and his sweet sister-in-law Susan Work. Daniel is preceded in death by his parents, Pauline (Gardner) and Harlan Whichello; and his two recently passed siblings, Kathleen Whichello and Edward Whichello. A traditional service will be held on Monday, April 3, 2023, at East Chelsea Baptist Church 7225 E Chelsea Street, Tampa, where Dan and his wife were members. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Dan’s memory may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association or to LifePath Hospice.
