Richard Joseph Buckley

Richard Joseph Buckley November 23, 1949 - June 15, 2022 Richard Joseph Buckley, 72, of Zephyrhills FL, passed away on June 15, 2022 surrounded by family. He was born on November 23, 1949 to Jack and Mayrilda Buckley in Providence, Rhode Island, who have proceeded him in death. Richard is survived by his wife, Maria; daughters Amber (Joshua) Westcott and Lieutenant Colonel Tanya Buckley; two step children, Michael and Jennifer Sumnick; three grandchildren, Saylor, Kyra, and Adalyn; and four sisters, Cyndy (Jim) Millican, Patricia Valois, Dianne (Jim) Lower, and Donna (Michael) Botieri. Richard served his country in the United States Army for twenty-two- and one-half years and fought for our country during the Vietnam War. Upon his retirement from the Army, Richard obtained an Associate of Science degree in computer-aided drafting from ITT Technical Institute. He went on to work in the child welfare sector as an office administrator. Owing to his love of everything mail-related, he worked as a UPS driver in his community during the holidays delivering Christmas cheer. An active Catholic, he served his church community in many different ways including as a lector and as a volunteer at the food pantry. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus. Richard sought adventure and thrills. He traveled the country and the world with his wife by his side. His love of roller coasters and lake tubing was juxtaposed with his love of puzzles. He was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He loved playing cards with his sisters and adding to his poker winnings at their expense. His service will be held on July 26, 2022 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mark the Evangelist Catholic Church, 9724 Cross Creek Blvd., Tampa, FL 33647. His interment will follow at 2:30 p.m. at the Florida National Cemetery located at 6502 SW 102nd Ave., Bushnell, FL 33513.
