What is an Eco-Friendly Container?
An Eco-Friendly container is a container, such as an urn or scattering tube, that is biodegradable. These biodegradable urns are often made of recycled paper, clay, rock salt, tree bark, gelatin, cardboard, and other recycled or natural materials. For example, there is an urn from Stardust Memorials that is made from mulberry bark that is harvested in a way that does not harm or destroy the trees, meaning that there is no tree being cut down to produce the urn. These urns oftentimes come with a water-soluble bag where the ashes are placed in the urn prior to disposition.
Who is Best Suited for these Containers?
There is no set demographic that these urns are made for. There are standard adult-sized urns, keepsake urns, extra-large urns, and more to accommodate all body types. If your loved one was passionate about animals, the environment, the beach, or the outdoors, these urns might be best suited for them. Alternatively, if you intend to have a scattering of ashes, these are beautiful containers that will dissolve in water or biodegrade within a few days to weeks as opposed to sitting empty on a shelf or being thrown away once used.
Options for Families
Most of these biodegradable urns are suited for both water burials and land burials, making it easy to put your loved one to rest without compromising on beauty and environmental awareness. Stardust Memorials has many beautiful urns and scattering tubes that are designed with biodegrading in mind. UPD Urns has options ranging from simple off-white recycled paper urns to bowl-shaped paper urns perfect for floating floral arrangements for a beautiful farewell. You can call our office or speak with Michael Patrias, our funeral director, for more information on biodegradable urn options.
