Dolores Monahan 02/20/1935-04/09/2024 Dolores Monahan, a devoted nun of the Grey Franciscan Order and a beloved Catholic school teacher for over three decades, passed away at Good Shepard Hospice in Lakeland, FL on April 9th, 2024, at the age of 89. Her life was a testament to her strong faith, selfless service, and endless love for her family. Dolores was born on February 20th, 1935, to parents Martin Christopher Monahan and Mary Agatha Connelly and grew up in Highland Falls, NY. She attended Lady Cliff College in Highland Falls, graduating with a Bachelor of Science in Education, laying the foundation for her love of teaching. After graduating from Lady Cliff College, Dolores felt a calling to dedicate her life to God's service. She joined the Grey Franciscan Order as Sister Mary Martin and lived out her vows of poverty, chastity, and obedience for sixteen years, finding fulfillment in prayer and teaching. Following her time in the convent, Dolores continued her career as a Catholic school teacher. She began her teaching journey at Sacred Heart in Highland Falls, NY, and later at St. Thomas of Canterbury in Cornwall, NY, before relocating to Tampa, FL. where she continued her teaching career at Nativity Catholic School until her retirement. After retirement, Dolores loved to read and found comfort and peace in quiet moments of prayer and contemplation. She had a special connection with the saints and knew exactly which ones to call upon in times of need or prayer. Saint Theresa held a special place in her heart. Tough but fair, Dolores was respected by all who knew her. She approached life with strength, integrity, and a deep sense of faith. Above all, she cherished her family. Dolores was preceded in death by her mother, Mary Agatha Connelly, father Martin Christopher Monahan, brothers John “Jack” Monahan, Martin Monahan (Teddy), Thomas Monahan (Gracie), sister, Margaret Cahill, and niece, Jennifer Doran. She is survived by Jo Ann Doran, nieces Jamie Doran (Cheryl), Mary O’Mara, and Maura Wolverton, nephews Tom Monahan, John Monahan (Peg), Joe Cahill (Ellen) Dennis Monahan, and many great nieces and nephews. Dolores will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A funeral mass will be held in her honor at Nativity Catholic Church in the Chapel on May 2nd, 2024 at 11am. “Let nothing disturb you, nothing frighten you, all things are passing, God is unchanging.
