Elizabeth Jane Hamilton

Elizabeth Jane Hamilton March 7, 1930 - July 13, 2022 Elizabeth Jane Hamilton, 92, of Brandon, Florida passed peacefully at home July 13th surrounded by family. Jane was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was married almost 73 years to Samuel “Sam” Hamilton. She was an only child and grew up during the depression. Jane graduated from Notre Dame High School in 1947. She was known for her great love of music and beautiful singing voice. She was a classically trained pianist and played percussion for her high school band. After graduation she taught piano before meeting her future husband at a local church dance. Jane was the mother of three daughters and one son and had eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Due to her husband’s career with a national defense contractor, she raised her family in many cities across the United States including Philadelphia, Cape Cod, Minot, Pasadena, Huntsville, and Titusville. Thereafter, the family settled in Brandon in 1965 where she immediately became an active parishioner at Nativity Catholic Church and volunteered as the church organist and cantor for many years. In order to spread her love of music, she continued teaching piano, and hosted music recitals in her home for a vast number of her students. Throughout her life, Jane was an avid Bridge player, enjoyed knitting, cross stitch, reading, and gardening. In order to escape the Florida summer heat, in 1988 she and Sam started spending their summers in the Georgia mountains in the town of Blairsville. They enjoyed gardening, visiting the local waterfalls, and spending time with friends. Jane is survived by her husband Sam Hamilton, her children, Anne (John) of Orlando, Florida, Jane (David) of Montgomery, Alabama, Marcella of Brandon, Florida, and Sam (Noelle) of Valrico, Florida; eight grandchildren, Karyn (Greg), Stephen (Lisa), Marie (Bill), Marcie (Tim), Lauren (Christian), Ian, Aidan, and Ainsley; eight great grandchildren, Jason, Elizabeth, Madelyn, Samantha, Jesse, Owen, Parker, and Cole. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, September 10, 2022, at Nativity Catholic Church, 705 E Brandon Blvd., Brandon, FL 33511. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Empath Suncoast Hospice of Hillsborough.
