In Loving Memory of Diane Margaret Earl Sula

In Loving Memory of Diane Margaret Earl Sula 7/14/1938 – 1/15/2023 Diane Earl Sula, 84, of Valrico, Florida, passed away on January 15, 2023. She was born to the late Mark M. Nelson and Margaret E. Hinze, July 14, 1938, in Miami, Florida. Diane was legally adopted by the late Frank Earl of Boise, Idaho, in 1950. Diane graduated from Boise High School in 1958, attended the University of Idaho, then graduated from Nursing School in Salt Lake City, Utah, in 1962. She would graduate from the College of St. Francis with a Bachelor of Science in 1982. Diane married the late Air Force Col. Richard L. Sula in 1963 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. They were married for 58 years and lived all over the United States. They retired to Kiawah Island, South Carolina, in 1997 and stayed until 2022, when Valrico, Florida, became home. Diane is survived by her sons Richard L Sula, Jr. (Nanet) of Olathe, Kansas, and Scott P. Sula, of Valrico, Florida. She is also survived by two grandchildren, Jacob R. Sula, and Trevor J. Sula. Diane was predeceased by her loving husband on April 18, 2022, as well as by her sister’s Florence (Earl) Barton, Teddie (Earl) Dingle, and Patricia (Hinze) Rainey and brother Mickey Earl. Diane was an emergency operating room registered nurse for over 30 years. She was a member of Alpha Chi Omega Sorority and a Job’s Daughter. As a child, she enjoyed skiing at Bogus Basin near her home in Boise, Idaho. She always enjoyed being outdoors and passed that on to her children and grandchildren. Being on the beach was one of her favorite things to do. She collected seashells, volunteered on the Turtle Patrol, fished, and took walks on the beach. The screened-in porch was a favorite place to relax and spend time with loved ones. Diane was known for her green thumb, as evidenced by the beautiful flower and vegetable gardens she created wherever she lived. Diane was an outstanding cook and her grandchildren especially loved her cookies. Her secret ingredient was love and nothing was more important than her family. She was a very loving wife and mother. She was a champion of her sons. Every decision was made with the family in mind, especially her children, and then her grandchildren. Nothing made Diane happier than the success and happiness of her family. Funeral and burial services for Diane will be on June 12, 2023, at the United States Air Force Academy Cemetery in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She will be buried alongside her late husband, Col. Richard L. Sula at the same service. Exact time pending. In lieu of flowers, please make memorial donations to the Florida Gulf Coast Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.
