Michael Douglas "Mike" Showalter Feb 25, 1947 – May 26, 2021 Obituary for Michael Douglas "Mike" Showalter Michael Douglas Showalter (Mike), passed away on May 26, 2021, at Lifepath Hospice in Sun City, Florida. He was born February 25, 1947, in Christiansburg, Virginia to Harry L. Showalter and June (Wells) Showalter. Mike spent his childhood between the Showalter family farm located in Alleghany Springs, Virginia and Bokeelia (Pine Island), Florida. He thought of his childhood as a boy’s paradise that fostered his love for the woods and the water. Mike graduated from North Fort Myers High School in 1964. Following his high school graduation, Mike graduated from Edison Junior College and the University of South Florida. While in college, Mike began working in industrial fire safety; later starting his own business, Able, Fire & Safety, Inc. in the early 1980’s, which continues to operate. Mike married Jan (Beagles) Mazas, in Clearwater, Florida. They celebrated 47 years of marriage last September and he is survived by his beloved wife, Jan Showalter; his son, Michael Douglas Showalter, Jr., and his wife, Kathleen Showalter; his daughter, Elena Spanos and her husband, Albert Garcia; his son, Michael Scott Showalter and his wife, Nicole Showalter; and his daughter, Cheryl Richards and her husband, Brian Richards. Mike believed his greatest achievement in life to be his children. He loved being “Grampy” to his grandchildren: Rachael Garcia; Ben Garcia; Jarred Spanos; Hannah Showalter; Will Garcia; Adam Showalter; Ashton Showalter; Grayson Showalter; Aubrey Richards; Emerson Richards; and Ryan Showalter. Friends and family are invited to attend a celebration of Mike’s life on July 11, 2021, beginning at 4:00 p.m., at the home of Brian & Cheryl Richards, 1806 Open Field Loop, Brandon, Florida 33510.
