Wayne Alfonsus Demerse

Wayne Alfonsus Demerse January 7, 1939 - February 23, 2022 Loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend. Wayne Alfonsus Demerse passed away peacefully on February 23, 2022 in the care of Lifepath Hospice at Community Health Center in Plant City, Florida at the age of 83. Wayne was born in Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada on January 7, 1939 to the late John and Adeline Demerse. He was predeceased by Sisters Rita and Norma and Brother John (Rochelle). On June 12, 1998 in Mishawaka, Indiana, Wayne married Debbie Ditsch, who still survives, in Plant City, Florida. Wayne has two children Rita VanDerwall (Walter) in Battle Creek, Michigan and Sean Demerse (Angella) in Battle Creek, Michigan. Wayne also has a step-daughter Donna Thrash Kurpiers (Richard) in Oviedo, Florida and a step-son Danny Maloney in Grand Rapids, Michigan. And Wayne has two grandchildren Jacob Demerse and Jonah Demerse that he enjoyed playing games with when visiting with them. Wayne grew up in Kirkland Lake Canada and attended college at Kirkland Lake Collegiate and Vocational Institute. He moved to Michigan in 1978 from Canada and has lived in numerous states, the latest being IN, MI, GA, VA, and FL. Wayne was fond of his work with Big Brothers/Big Sisters. He took the kids to Beaver Island sometimes. He liked baseball and softball and played fast ball in the past. He was known as “Rook” in Ontario for his pitching. He was a Fast Pitch Provincial Champ then. Wayne was a salesman by trade and worked as a representative for a fishing distribution company, was an accounting representative for Datsun, worked in a Uranium mine and worked at several flooring companies. He worked the longest at New York Carpet World out of Southfield, Michigan as an Assistant Manager in the Chicago region and as a salesman in MI and in IN. He then went to work for Flooring American in the Carpet Max Division in Kennesaw, GA where he retired while living in Dalton, GA. In his spare time Wayne liked to barbeque outdoors and play with animals. He loved cats and dogs and they loved him. He also played softball in a minor city league for New York Carpet World. Wayne enjoyed going to the zoo, to any casino, going on water cruises and cruises to other countries. He also enjoyed walks along the boardwalk weekly in Virginia Beach, watching the dolphins in the ocean. He was a big fan of the Toronto Blue Jays and attended several games. He also loved fishing, euchre, hearts and watching hockey and baseball. He was a Notre Dame Football fan and loved attending concerts as well. His favorite concerts were Neil Diamond, Celine Dion and Garth Brooks. He also loved trying new restaurants in the places he lived and especially loved the seafood. Wayne was a very loving and caring individual. He loved his family and loved spending time with all of them in Canada and in the States. He loved traveling to Canada to visit them and stopping at Niagara Falls on the way and spending other events with his family in MI and in IN. Wayne had a lot of friends he made over the years especially from New York Carpet World and he valued their friendships. He was a fantastic husband and father and will be missed. There will be no services at this time. Brandon Funeral and Cremation Services in Brandon, FL is assisting with arrangements. A Celebration of Life event for family and friends honoring Wayne will occur in June in Indiana.
