William "Bill" Denehy

William "Bill" Denehy August 22, 1954 - January 16, 2023 On January 16, 2023, William “Bill” Denehy, age 68, passed away in Sun City, Florida, with his family by his side. He was a warrior throughout his lengthy battle with Primary Progressive Aphasia, fighting until the very end. As the rock of our family, his optimism, advice, humor, generosity, strength, and love will be greatly missed. Bill was born in Norwood, MA, to the former Francis and Mary (Johnson) Denehy. He is survived by his high school sweetheart and wife, Patricia (Flaherty); daughter Katherine (Timothy Felder); son William (Kerry Mooney); and two granddaughters, who he loved beyond measure, Avery and Elise. He is predeceased by his brother, Thomas, and leaves behind his siblings Kate Bergman, Patricia Rodham, Timothy, Lawrence, Daniel, and Francis Denehy and their families, along with many nieces, nephews, in-laws, and friends. Graduating from Norwood High School, Bill went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in finance at the University of Connecticut, where he was assistant captain for the varsity hockey team. He continued his education at Boston College Carroll School of Management, where he earned his MBA in marketing. He was a leader amongst his colleagues and received numerous accolades along the way. In addition to excelling in his banking career, he was a devoted father, loving and supportive husband, proud Papa, encouraging youth hockey coach, active kayaker, golfer and runner, generous donor to so many in need, Boston sports fan, and the life of the party, who continued to smile right up to his final days. To honor Bill’s life, the family asks that you take time to educate yourself and others about Primary Progressive Aphasia (PPA), a rare and often misdiagnosed neurological disease that results in dementia. We have tremendous hope that a cure will someday be found. If you would like to help in these efforts and wish to make a donation in Bill’s memory, you can do so through Northwestern University’s Mesulam Center for Cognitive Neurology and Alzheimer’s Disease at: Brain.northwestern.edu/about/giving.html Simply click the purple Give Online button and select the PPA Research & Education Fund designation. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
