Mary (Menchaca) King

Mary (Menchaca) King January 3, 1953 - August 31, 2021 Obituary Mary (Menchaca) King of Riverview, FL passed away August 31, 2021, at the age of 68. Mary was born January 3, 1953, in Carson City, Michigan. As a teenager, her family settled in Riverview, FL. and she graduated from East Bay High School in 1971. She married her high school boyfriend Gary David King on February 11, 1973, and they began a family. Always adventurous and willing to try something new, Mary attended college and became a computer programmer in the early 80’s. In the 90’s, she spent several years managing flea markets where she met lots of interesting people and really enjoyed the work. Eventually, she got the opportunity to pursue her childhood dream of becoming a hairdresser. She attended hair school and within a couple of years she was able to open her own salon, HairWorks. She loved seeing how a hairstyle could make someone feel so good about themselves. Mary was a beautiful free spirit who will be forever missed by those who knew her. Mary is survived by her two children Angela (King) Ortiz (Jason Ortiz) and Gary David King II (Isabel King); her four grandchildren Silas Ortiz, Miah Ortiz, Gabriella King and Mary King; her sisters and brothers Gloria Pettitt, Phyllis Mabry, Gus Menchaca and Nick Menchaca; and her companion of five years, Patrick Manning; and several nieces and nephews. Mary was preceded in death by her husband of 40 years Gary David King; her parents Agustin Menchaca and Margaret (Kapp) Menchaca; and her nephew Agustin “Auggie” Menchaca III.
